The SDRN is managed by an Executive Group (https://www.nhsresearchscotland.org.uk/research-areas/diabetes/our-staff) consisting of diabetic clinicians, GPs, STET researchers specialising in diabetes. The main aims of SDRN are to:
- support clinical studies for patient benefit in all Health Board areas in Scotland
- work with people with diabetes to enhance their participation in clinical studies that are aimed at improving future treatment, wellbeing and prognosis. SDRN has developed a National Research Register (http://www.nhsresearchscotland.org.uk/research-areas/diabetes/get-involved) for patients wishing to take part in diabetes research.
- provide the results of high quality, unintrusive epidemiological research based on collaborative analysis of fully anonymised linked datasets. This may help with planning diabetes services and resources in the future.
